Chinese Enamel Foo Dog Ring

Antique Chinese opera ring in repoussé silver, depicting a guardian lion, also known as a Foo Dog. The front is decorated with remnants of antique turquoise-colored enamel.
These rings, known as opera rings, are pieces of jewellery associated with the tradition of Chinese opera and were worn by Chinese ladies during evenings at the theatre.
Some examples feature theatrical and figurative scenes, sometimes associated with travelling troupes, which also offered them as souvenirs of performances. The guardian lion motif, on the other hand, refers to a symbolic figure traditionally associated with protection and good fortune.

The inner diameter of the ring measures 18 mm (0.71 in), while the front measures 22 mm (0.87 in) in height.
