Antique gilt silver earring from southern India, also wearable as a pendant.
The front depicts a Kirtimukha, a traditional motif of Hindu art widely in southern India: a monstrous head without a body, characterized by a wide open mouth, fangs, and strongly stylized features, traditionally associated with a protective function.
The lower part is decorated with small gilt silver spheres.
