Antique Chinese brush holder in briarwood

Large antique Chinese brush holder in natural briarwood, traditionally used in the studies of scholars (wenren), for whom writing and calligraphy were central practices of intellectual life. The briarwood, chosen for its irregular grain, is left in its natural form and bears witness to the aesthetic and cultural taste of the Chinese scholarly tradition. Particularly widespread during the Ming and Qing dynasties, these objects were often unique pieces, minimally worked to enhance the natural shape of the wood. This brush holder has a beautiful antique patina, is heavy and exceptionally large, with a height of 13 centimetres and a maximum width of 16 centimetres. Diffusi soprattutto tra le dinastie Ming e Qing, questi oggetti erano spesso pezzi unici, lavorati in modo minimale per valorizzare la forma naturale del legno.
Questo porta pennelli presenta una bellissima patina antica del legno ha un peso importante ed è di dimensioni eccezionalmente ampie, con un’altezza di 13 centimetri ed una larghezza massima di 16 centimetri.
